Building on the power of Motherhood to fuel creative growth.

Ma.moment.um is a habitat-in-progress that celebrates creative energy with curiosity and love. Building on the unique momentum that is fueled by raising a family, this is a place for relating an internal river of emotional experience with its reflection in the outer world. Curated by sere.nity, you’ll find a multi-disciplinary platform for mixed media art, photography, and the written word.

While starting out as a personal website, it’s my hope that others will find inspiration for their own pursuits and contribute in the future. I welcome you to join the ride and see how the journey evolves!

About Me

Welcome to the online home of sere.nity, the creative alias building this habitat. Behind this alias, I am a wife, a mother to one incredible kid, a sister, daughter, niece, friend, and artist. I have an extensive background in living and traveling abroad, the visual arts, international education, and constant self growth and learning. Add to that mix a decade of homeschooling with my child and a recent move to a new country, and you’re beginning to get a glimpse of what I’m about. I am rooted in values of kindness, honesty, curiosity, connection, self-discovery, an appreciation of beauty, and joy.

After a decade of homeschooling my child, we’re both excited to be diving into a new phase – one of self exploration and expansion. Homeschooling was amazing at times, grueling at other times, and I wouldn’t change a thing! We both learned a ton, made friends, continuously stepped out of our comfort zones, and built a bond that I hope lasts a lifetime.

Now that we’ve found a wonderful school for our uniquely free-spirited child, and are in a new chapter of our lives in a new country, it’s time to branch out! I’ve always pursued all kinds of art-making (more on that here). Now I’m bringing my creativity, self-growth, curiosity and love of being “Mama” out into the larger world. I would so love to meet others who are doing the same.

What You’ll Find here

This is an evolving landscape. Be prepared to watch the seasons change!

Right now,

You will find images.

Particular colors, shapes, or movement can spark incredible, fleeting moments of joy. The more I pay attention to this, the more I am inspired in every aspect of life. So I take photographs. I sketch. I make watercolor paintings and revise digital attempts at emotion over and over. This habitat will be populated with these things and more. I’ll do my best to push through perfectionism and share things that capture joy, even in small, imperfect bits.

You will find words.

You’ll also find essays, stories, articles and more. Storytelling goes hand-in-hand with being a parent, why not share the magic?! I’m also excited to share the voices of others who are in the thick of discovering their true potential, especially while their kids are just beginning to find theirs.

You will find hope.

Things can get pretty complicated, but it works out. Not always like we had imagined, and not always the way we wanted it to. But the journey continues, until it doesn’t. This is what helps me step forward every day.

Speaking of finding my voice, there’s something I want you to know:

I Use a Pen Name.

sere.nity is a creative alias for my artistic journey online. It represents my quest for courage and growth, while staying true to my authentic self. A foray into the unknown that I have been eyeing for some time. As I mentioned above, one of my main values is honesty, so I’m letting you know this right off the bat!

I have never felt comfortable sharing my life on the internet. No one in my family really does, either. It’s just how we are. It mainly comes down to a preference for privacy. Or maybe it’s just me, and I’m old school that way.

I understand that it’s easier to trust someone who puts themselves out there for real, though.

Here are two of the main reasons I’m using a pen name:

  1. My privacy ~ I prefer not to have anyone I meet, or have worked with in the past, be able to go read my deeper thoughts until I’m ready. Then I can happily share what I’m up to, on my own terms..
  2. Fear of failure ~ My fear of sharing my self on the internet has been a serious hamper on what I do with this overflowing creative energy, actually! I tend to be so worried about doing things “well enough” to share, that I don’t do them at all. Or I do them and then they hide away in a sketchbook or in my head, and I miss the opportunity to grow from it. So this is a way for me to just step over that and try a new path from a new point of view.

Thought: How much do we really know each other online if we only see what the other chooses to share? This is the reality of the internet. I’m choosing to share a lot about me, my life, and my experiences. But I’m keeping my real name and recent photos for myself until I’m ready to share more. It’s a way to practice establishing my own boundaries, my own rules.

In the meantime, I will build this habitat from a place of authenticity. I will only share truths from my life, as real as I can. I would love to connect with others through this journey, I hope you’ll join me!
